Sophistication is up, complexity is down and the price is not bad too!

Car navigation systems have come a long way from when they first started out. Back then, the GPS Car navigation systems were impressive, but much more confusing than they were useful. They would forget where you were from time to time, they would send you down one way streets, or put roads in places where they did not belong. And on top of all that, you would still become dependant on these Car GPS navigation systems, and lose your ability to find your own way around by yourself. In my opinion, they were worse than useless in those early days.

But god, how these Car navigation systems have improved in the last few years.

Why just the other day, I was driving with my good friend and cousin, George, in his car which is equipped with one of the latest models of Car navigation system.

He has been using these Car navigation systems for years, and I had gotten used to them doing a whole lot more to throw us off and confuse us than to really make the directions to some place clear. But not today. Today's Car navigation systems can do things that you would not even believe. Paul asked his GPS system where a restaurant was by name, and it gave him precise directions. It can even talk to him so that he does not have to glance away from the steering wheel for even a breif moment. It really is what one could call a model of human ingenuity, and that is no joke. I was completely and sincerely blown away by all of the things that it could do.

Of course, not all of the Car navigation systems out there are quite the same, so before you go out and nab one off of the shelf, you should go ahead and take the time to read a few reviews of them. That way, you will know, well and truly, how the different Car navigation systems compare to each other, and which one is the best of the lot. There are a number of different levels you need to consider when considering a purchase, such as, do you want just a basic Car navigation system that simply gets you from A - B or...  would you want to combine these capabilities with something more sophisticated such as those forming a complete audio visual system for the car with rear seat dvd screens for the kids?

There is no point getting the first thing that flashes and blinks and talks to you. Video games have been doing that for years. You should only consider Car navigation systems with quality. That way, they will help you find your way safely and securely to where you need to go. There is nothing more annoying than getting wrong directions from a computer, after all.

So consider carefully what you really need and will really use and while you're at it ask about the costs of keeping the mapping up to date, a consideration of car navigation systems that is often overlooked.

Technology moves ever forward and roads? well they get re-routed all the time, along with traffic priorities such as one way streets.

One thing to bear in mind is that the more capable the car navigation system the more costly it is to keep it up to date... after all the more detail it holds (Maps, street levels, scale of maps, restaurants, filling stations and so on... ) the bigger the set of data.

Information costs money but too little information is a waste of money.

Car navigation systems are a real benefit, they are quite easy to use and once you have one you will wonder why on earth your never got one a long time ago.
