A robomower combines clever design and technology in an innovative well thought out package, so how does it work?
it does the work so you don't have to ...
Combining modern robotics, artificial intelligence and robust mechanics into one package has taken a significant amount of research and development to pull off. Like any successful technology there needs to be a good balance between all out 'Hi-Tec' and practical robust design.
The robomower works by sensing a perimeter wire that is installed in readiness for first time use. The perimeter wire acts like a toddler’s play pen, in that the mower can only travel between the wire boundaries before it reverses direction.
The sensor wire carries a low harmless (to humans and animals alike) voltage that the robomower comes in to contact with. Once its clever electronics 'sees' this voltage the direction change takes place.
All this results in a to and fro traverse of the lawned area.
What about your much loved flower bed that’s in the middle of the lawn?
No problem for the robomower, as this is similarly protected by perimeter wiring.
The robomower wiring by the way is easy to install and lies in contact with the ground so that after a short while it is for all intent and purposes invisibly part of the lawn.
What about dumping all that cut grass? Again no problem as the cutting system (typically 3 bladed) rotates at such high revs that the resulting cuttings are very small and form a near ideal mulch around the base of the grass. The mulch quickly breaks down thus feeding the grass nutrients back into the lawn, sort of a self feeding approach to re-cycling the waste.
Like most gadgets (and the robomower is no different) there are a number of models with varying capabilities and you will need to do a little research to match those capabilities to your needs and the size of the lawn you are intending to cut.
If you are one of the 'set it and forget it' types (I certainly am) then the robotics side of things is capable of learning the location of its charger, automatically re-connecting itself and recharging in readiness for the next cut. Of course robomower allows this to be scheduled too through some easy to use functions.
So perhaps it's time to sit back, quaff a nice glass of wine whilst casually telling a friend "Oh it’s just the robomower doing its thing" (you know as if to say... everyone has one don't they?)
Definitely one of our favourite, practical, time saving gadgets with some well thought out technology to boot.
